چکیده

The opportunistic fungal pathogens belonging to the Candida haemulonii complex and phylogenetically related species auris are well-known for causing infections that difficult treat due their multidrug-resistance profiles. is even more worrisome its ability cause outbreaks in healthcare settings. These emerging yeasts produce a wide range of virulence factors facilitate development infectious process. In recent years, aggregative phenotype has been receiving attention, as it mainly associated with defects cellular division possible involvement helping fungus escape from host immune responses. present study, we initially investigated aggregation 18 clinical isolates C. (C. sensu stricto, duobushaemulonii, var. vulnera) auris. Subsequently, evaluated effects physicochemical on competence. results demonstrated cell-to-cell was typically time-dependent event, which almost all studied both exhibited high after 2 h incubation at 37 °C. Interestingly, cells forming aggregates remained viable. not impacted by pH, temperature, β-mercaptoethanol (a protein-denaturing agent), or EDTA chelator agent). Conversely, proteinase K, trypsin, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) significantly diminished aggregation. Collectively, our these yeast time-dependent, surface proteins hydrophobic interactions seem mediate cell since presence proteases anionic detergents affected capability. However, further studies necessary better elucidate molecular aspects this intriguing phenomenon.

Biofilm formation and genotyping of Candida haemulonii, Candida pseudohaemulonii, and a proposed new species (Candida auris) isolates from Korea.

Emergence of Candida haemulonii and closely related species at five Korean hospitals has been recently described. We examined biofilm formation by these isolates and assessed their genotypic relatedness by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). This study is the first to show that all bloodstream isolates of Candida pseudohaemulonii can form significant biofilms in glucose-containing medium. ...

Candida haemulonii complex: species identification and antifungal susceptibility profiles of clinical isolates from Brazil.

OBJECTIVES The emerging fungal pathogens comprising the Candida haemulonii complex (Candida haemulonii, Candida haemulonii var. vulnera and Candida duobushaemulonii) are notable for their antifungal resistance. Twelve isolates with phenotypic similarity to C. haemulonii were recovered from patients in Brazilian hospitals. Here we aimed to identify these isolates by a molecular approach, using t...

Multidrug-Resistant Candida haemulonii and C. auris, Tel Aviv, Israel

Candida auris and C. haemulonii are closely related, multidrug-resistant emerging fungal pathogens that are not readily distinguishable with phenotypic assays. We studied C. auris and C. haemulonii clinical isolates from 2 hospitals in central Israel. C. auris was isolated in 5 patients with nosocomial bloodstream infection, and C. haemulonii was found as a colonizer of leg wounds at a peripher...

Effectiveness of Disinfectants Against Candida auris and Other Candida Species.

Contaminated surfaces are a suspected source for dissemination of the globally emerging pathogen Candida auris. In laboratory testing, sporicidal and improved hydrogen peroxide disinfectants were highly effective against C. auris, C. glabrata, and C. albicans. The widely used quaternary ammonium disinfectants exhibited relatively poor activity against all of the Candida species. Infect Control ...

infection have been reported in immunosuppressed persons, both in HIV/AIDS patients (manifesting as pulmonary infection in 1 patient and disseminated disease in the other) (6). In our study, the im-munocompromised patient with M. arupense tenosynovitis received canakinumab, a relatively new biologic agent with a prolonged selective IL-1 β-blockade. Even though the contribution of canakinumab in...
